I have a modded gamecube motherboard and was wondering if i could trasnfer this raspberry pi pico chip, im completely new to soldering and jsut bought a kit, any tips?
k9t33n
have you done any research on whether you can actually do this?
luciathemagicalfrog
but from what it seems i can jsut do a little surgerty
luciathemagicalfrog
u know
luciathemagicalfrog
i dont have steady hands so im scared but my dad is an electronic engineer and walked me through the process, i just need to solder the wires loose and resolder them onto the new gamecube motherboard
luciathemagicalfrog
i might have to ditch the optical drive, or maybe i can just have it just chilling on the motherboard? i dont know if i should be just leaving it there
luciathemagicalfrog
its covered in an orange trasnparent tape, i was wondering if i should tape it with electrical tape but i heard thats actually really amateur to do
oops.se
Orange tape = Capton tape. And that is a insulating and heat resistant tape.

If your goal is to integrate a Raspberry Pi Pico “Modchip” into your GameCube then follow the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwL4ZSa0xMo
But to do this as a "Starter project" I wouldn't recommend it, start small and then expand.
luciathemagicalfrog
what is "small"
luciathemagicalfrog
from what i see this is a simple process but i dont know if its really "small"
oops.se
If you feel comfortable, go for it
luciathemagicalfrog
definitely seems possible, i just need to do more research on how to use flux and how it works and i should be good
oops.se
Flux the surfaces that you want to solder/desolder. But clean it away with alcohol after you are finished soldering.
luciathemagicalfrog
Is that a good idea?
oops.se
Alcohol vapor away very fast, but I dont do it like that, i put on flux before and then clean after soldering with alcohol.
oops.se
Sorry short answer, NO!
luciathemagicalfrog
🙂
luciathemagicalfrog
just an update for anyone wondering, i did the surgery, solderless, i just replaced the gamecube motherboard in the working gamecube
luciathemagicalfrog
and it works fine lol
k9t33n
oh cool
k9t33n
wait it actually runs normally?
k9t33n
deos it have upgraded performance at all?
oops.se
Nice work!
k9t33n
oh that's cool, well done
luciathemagicalfrog
it has a cd drive, the controller port is better, and it has all the screws, i hid the pico infront of the controller panel
luciathemagicalfrog
old one had no cd drive and was so old and broken, guess the mother board was fine but everything else was busted
k9t33n
well I'm surprised, this is way better of a thing that I could ever do so really well done
