I upgraded over 200 packages and now after reboot my RPI asks me to log in, when I do it shows a blank screen, changes cursor to X and then asks for login again
oops.se
Is the disk ful?
fear0577
no
fear0577
it did overwrite some config files during upgrading but idk which
oops.se
Ouch, that you have to record and make a backup beforehand...
fear0577
can I see it in some log file
fear0577
I have the sd card in my pc now
oops.se
Not if you have overwritten them
fear0577
yeah but I would know what got overwritten
oops.se
Sorry, but it sounds like a "Start over from the beginning" and learn from it.
k9t33n
was it a really old os? also did you run full-upgrade?
fear0577
nah I just ran upgrade
fear0577
it wasnt upgraded for months, and I also used the debian channel not rpi
fear0577
because rpi had really outdated libs that would crash my programs
oops.se
You should have selected "keep previous version"
k9t33n
yeah well one problem there was that it was too old
oops.se
Noop
k9t33n
i would keep all your files backed up on your pc like scripts get a new os and copy the files over that can be used on that os over to the new image
k9t33n
i mean an old outdated os id say is always a problem. i think its good practice to keep your system updated regurly wouldnt you?
k9t33n
but anyway as mentioned this sounds like a start over and learn from it kind of mistake
fear0577
nah
fear0577
I will just find what got overwritten and copy it over from my pi0
fear0577
/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
fear0577
/etc/sysctl.conf
fear0577
Luckily for me apt backups configs before overwriting
fear0577
Welp that didnt work fuck
k9t33n
yup, you can get a fresh install on a different SD card maybe and copy them over. that would put you back to default settings and it's assuming the upgrade updated you to the complete newest os or Atleest close enough
fear0577
screw rpi os, I will just install newest debian after copying all data
oops.se
Raspberry Pi OS is tweaked Debian
k9t33n
its basically debian
k9t33n
very close to it
fear0577
outdated debian*
fear0577
rpi os has very very old libs
fear0577
you cant even use newer cpp standards on it without static linking
oops.se
As do Debian source
fear0577
no, debian has much newer ones than rpi does
oops.se
Stable = Old libs, unstable = new wlibs
fear0577
I had debian source on my RPI to fix this
fear0577
but sadly it fucked up my rpi os as you can see
fear0577
it was fine for over a year
oops.se
Okay
fear0577
but with this upgrade it yeeted the login gui
k9t33n
headless better anyway
fear0577
Wtf I installed debian with gnome and it does exactly the same thing
