Hey guys, my pi5 doesnt boot from a IDE HDD connected to the usb while it can boot from an sd-card. Can anyone help me figure out what the problem is? Thanks!

Do cd /boot/firmware/mmcblk0
k9t33n
To keep neat
sharkieco
No such file or directory
k9t33n
Yeah makes sense
k9t33n
One second let me find my notes
k9t33n
Ugh my laptop with my notes on it is dead
k9t33n
Nice
sharkieco
That sucks
k9t33n
Ok I'll have to do this later sorry
k9t33n
I was going to get you to do a mkfs command and whatnot so we know your pi can actually read it
sharkieco
Cant i just mount the boot section of the hdd and try to read some files on there?
k9t33n
For now just go into the imager and select "erase" in the os section then you can flash it like normally once again
k9t33n
Try it because why not
sharkieco
I can read the files so the boot isnt broken or anything
k9t33n
Hmm
k9t33n
Strange then
k9t33n
Are you trying the grey or blue ports?
k9t33n
Just try and swap which ports your using
sharkieco
Im using the blue
sharkieco
I figured usb 3.0 should work best
k9t33n
Yes it normally would but sometimes stuff doesn't always support boot from it
sharkieco
Ill try switching the ports
k9t33n
Great 😀
sharkieco
Nope doesnt work
k9t33n
Hmm
k9t33n
Is the screen blank?
sharkieco
I got it to work, i flashed the image using balena etcher instead op pi imager because the imager apparently cant correctly flash images to large volumes
